Air: Moon Safari
If I had to choose only one album to listen to for the rest of my life, it would be Air's Moon Safari.Air is a french duo, comprised of Jean-Benoit Dunckel and Nicholas Godin, who met in the mid 1990's while both studying at the same college. They formed Air in 1995, and released the critically acclaimed Moon Safari in 1998, riding the first wave of the muscial genre known as electronica. While other electronic bands at the time were noisy and heavily techno-inspired (think of Daft Punk), Air's sound was retro 70's downtempo, due to the use of old-school instruments such as the Moog synthesizer and the Vocoder. Daft Punk was dancefloor while Air was chillout lounge.
Every time I listen to Moon Safari, it takes me on an emotional journey. It's total comfort music: soulful yet silly, vintage yet modern. This album is a true musical masterpiece, and 8 years after buying it, I still love it.
I've included the Sexy Boy video from Moon Safari. Forget the weird toy monkey premise, this video is Air at their synthy best...

Unfortunately? thier second album is not so good...=((
I agree. They hit their pinnacle with Moon Safari.
While my fave Air album is Moon Safari, I'm also fond of Talkie Walkie. A bit more of a return to MS form, while still progressing a bit.
BTW, I love your blog. I've been reading it regularly for the past few weeks. Thanks for all your work.
